AFC Bournemouth will feature in both the qualifying draw and the main draw for the League Cup’s third round, continuing their participation in the competition for another campaign.
Because of the club’s European commitments in the Europa League, they begin their Carabao Cup journey in round three rather than round two, a change from their usual Premier League positioning in earlier seasons.
The fixtures will be scheduled across a fortnight, with matchweeks starting on September 7 and September 14 respectively.
Marco Rose’s squad will feature during the opening of those two weeks, coinciding with the start of their continental campaign.
However, any side competing in the Champions League will be involved in their initial European fixtures during the first of those weeks, meaning they must schedule their domestic cup involvement for the second week.
As a result, the cup draw will divide clubs into two groups, since UEFA competitions cannot be rearranged.
The first group will include Bournemouth alongside Arsenal, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Sunderland as the clubs participating in the continent’s premier competitions.
The second group contains the other 24 clubs taking part in the draw.
A preliminary draw will precede the main draw, with both events scheduled for Wednesday, August 26.
That initial draw will establish whether the eight clubs in the first group will host or travel, meaning Bournemouth will learn after this stage whether they play at Dean Court or away.
The opening eight pairings in the main draw will then establish the opponents, including Bournemouth’s, for the teams from those two European tournaments, selected from the second group.
The final eight fixtures will subsequently be drawn from the 16 clubs remaining in the second group.
The preliminary draw is set for approximately 7.20pm on Sky Sports ahead of the Preston North End match against Everton, while the main draw will follow at roughly 10.15pm after that encounter concludes.
