Cobham Sports 3-2 Bournemouth Sports – Bowe late winner

Matchday three of the DPL season brought Bournemouth Sports to Merley Park, where they faced Cobham Sports in sweltering conditions.

The hosts ultimately triumphed 3-2, though the scoreline suggested a more commanding display than they actually produced. For large portions of the encounter, Cobham failed to match their opponents’ intensity and struggled with composure on the ball. Nevertheless, they secured victory through two impressive goals after the interval.

Luke Burbidge struck in the 54th minute, calmly finishing from 22 yards out to draw Cobham level and ultimately claim the winner. The decisive moment arrived when substitute Henry Bowe netted in the 86th minute. After Jacob Lewiarz blocked Bowe’s initial effort, the forward pounced on the rebound and drove it home with his left foot.

Cam Beard had given Cobham the lead in the 10th minute, only for Jake Harvey to equalise from a corner kick 17 minutes later, sending both teams in at half-time locked at one goal each.

Bournemouth’s second goal arrived early in the second period. Jack Burton lost possession cheaply while attempting to play out from defence, and when the loose ball was swept wide to Jackson Kavita, the winger’s miscued cross deceived Burton. A Bournemouth defender then guided the ball beyond Cobham goalkeeper Toby Butt.

The home crowd left frustrated, having witnessed an underwhelming performance from their team. Nevertheless, Bournemouth Sports deserve credit for their persistent pressing across the pitch, which stifled Cobham’s attempts to establish control. Ultimately, the visitors were unfortunate to depart empty-handed.
