Marco Rose is demanding his Bournemouth team maintain their fearless and proactive approach, building on the foundations established by his predecessor Andoni Iraola.
Rose was appointed as the club’s new head coach shortly after Iraola revealed his intention to depart when the 2025/26 campaign concluded, with Bournemouth moving swiftly to secure his replacement.
The German tactician was selected partly because of his comparable tactical philosophy, characterised by an aggressive pressing system and an intense brand of football.
Rose has made clear that this philosophy will not shift as the club competes in the Premier League, with the aim of progressing from what Iraola accomplished.
Speaking about his appointment, Rose explained that the club believed bringing in a coach with a similar methodology to the outgoing manager was the right direction, and that maintaining this forward-thinking and courageous outlook in every match was the priority.
He acknowledged that with the opening fixture against Manchester City approaching, certain adjustments would be necessary, but the core principles would endure. The manager emphasised the importance of identifying the appropriate moments to adopt an aggressive approach and ensuring those opportunities are capitalised upon. He noted that the weekly match preparation would continue to focus on these aspects as they awaited the Sunday fixture.
Bournemouth travel to face City on Sunday for their season opener.
Rose was explicit that the overall strategy would not undergo significant transformation, with the team set to adopt an attacking mindset at the Etihad Stadium.
He stated that while some physical and tactical refinements might be required when playing against elite opposition, the fundamental approach of playing forward and remaining proactive would remain unchanged, and this would be crucial for the upcoming match.
